Wedding Travelers Killed in Plateau Attack

Eleven of the injured travelers from Friday’s brutal attack are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

According to our correspondent, a group of 31 travelers—comprising men, women, and children—were onboard an 18-seater bus belonging to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, when they were ambushed by attackers around 8:00 p.m.

Daily Trust gathered that the group was en route to Qua’an Pan Local Government Area for a wedding ceremony when they encountered a violent mob.

Sheikh Suleiman Haruna, the Chief Imam of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, stating that the victims’ bodies had been deposited at Mangu General Hospital.

“There were 31 people in the bus. Right now, eight bodies are at the hospital. We’ve requested assistance from security personnel to help recover the remaining four. We were with the Chairman of Mangu LGA, and he has been actively involved in handling the situation,” the Imam stated.

One of the survivors, Ibrahim Umar, recounted the horrifying experience: “We were on our way to Qua’an Pan for our brother’s wedding when we lost our way. We stopped to ask for directions, but suddenly, we were surrounded. The crowd began shouting that we should be killed.”

“They launched an attack with dangerous weapons, killing the driver first before turning on the rest of us. They later set the bus on fire—with the bodies still inside. We’re now in the hospital, receiving medical care,” Umar said.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Altau, confirmed the incident but said an official statement would be released later.
