Nigeria’s First Female Fighter Pilot, Kafayat Sanni, Wins Top Awards in Ghana

Flight Lieutenant Kafayat Sanni, Nigeria’s trailblazing first female fighter pilot, has once again made the nation proud by clinching top honours at the prestigious Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) in Accra.
Sanni was named Best Allied Student and also received the Best Assistant Commandant Paper award at the institution.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Saturday in Abuja by the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.
According to Ejodame, the awards were presented during the College’s graduation ceremony held on Friday, which was attended by high-ranking military officials and dignitaries from across the African continent.
Sanni first captured national attention in 2019 when she was officially decorated as the NAF’s first female fighter pilot following her training in the United States.
“Since then, she has flown the Alpha Jet and served as an instructor pilot on the Super Mushshak, where she has trained and mentored a new generation of pilots for the Nigerian Air Force,” Ejodame noted.
He emphasized that Sanni’s recent achievement at GAFCSC not only showcases her personal excellence and determination but also highlights Nigeria’s growing influence in regional defence and its commitment to promoting gender inclusion within the military.
“This remarkable feat is a testament to the Nigerian Air Force’s continued investment in human capital development, driven by the visionary leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar,” Ejodame added.
