The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), organisers of the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League, has announced revised dates for the 2025 edition of the premier women’s basketball championship.

This update was shared in an official letter signed by the federation’s Secretary-General, Amina Amanchi, and sent to all participating teams and key stakeholders on Saturday.

According to Amanchi, the rescheduling became necessary to allow for better logistical coordination and to give teams ample time for preparation and travel.

She explained that Phase 1 of the preliminary rounds for the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences will now take place simultaneously but in different locations.

The Atlantic Conference preliminaries are now scheduled for Benin City, from July 21 to 29, featuring all qualified teams from the zone.

Meanwhile, the Savannah Conference games will take place in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, from July 28 to August 5, with teams from the northern regions competing.

Amanchi noted that the NBBF had worked in close collaboration with state basketball associations and local organising committees to confirm the new dates and venues.

Phase 2 of the zonal playoffs will follow shortly after. The Atlantic Conference teams will head to Ilorin for their matches, set to hold from August 24 to September 1.

At the same time, Savannah Conference teams will compete in Jos from August 24 to September 1, aiming to secure a place in the National Finals.

She stressed the critical role of the zonal playoffs, as they will determine the teams that advance to the final stage of the championship.

Amanchi also revealed that the much-anticipated National Final 8 will be held in Lagos, though the exact date is yet to be confirmed by the league’s sponsor.

She assured that the official date for the Final 8 will be announced once Zenith Bank, the lead sponsor, provides final confirmation.

Reaffirming its commitment, the NBBF promised to deliver a well-organised and highly competitive tournament that will continue to elevate women’s basketball in Nigeria and beyond.

Participating teams have been urged to comply fully with the new schedule and commence early preparations to ensure their complete and timely participation in all fixtures.
