Tragedy struck at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, as a male student reportedly jumped from a three-storey building near the school gate after allegedly consuming hard drugs. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Eyewitnesses from the nearby lodge said they heard a loud thud, and on investigating, discovered the student lying in a pool of blood. The shocking incident has left the university community in mourning.
Reports suggest that the victim may have been under the influence of illicit substances before taking the fatal leap. His roommate, who was also reportedly intoxicated, was found incoherent in their room.
Authorities have since taken the roommate into custody for questioning, pending his recovery.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been made public as efforts are ongoing to notify his family. Police and university officials are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
