Liverpool FC has officially announced the departure of seven players from their Academy ranks following the expiry of their contracts at the end of the 2024/25 season. The exits mark another step in what is shaping up to be a summer of significant change at the club.
Among those leaving is 22-year-old midfielder Dominic Corness, who spent the latter half of the season on loan at League Two side Gillingham. He also previously gained international experience playing in Switzerland’s top flight with Yverdon-Sport.
Three goalkeepers will also depart: Jakub Ojrzynski (22), Reece Trueman (20), and Jacob Poytress (21). While none featured prominently in competitive fixtures, they played key roles as training keepers across the U21 and senior squads.
Versatile defender Lee Jonas (20), whose time at the club was disrupted by injuries, is also moving on. Meanwhile, teenage defenders Louis Enahoro-Marcus and Harry Evers, both 18, are surprising departures from the U18 setup.
These exits come alongside a wider overhaul at Anfield. Senior players Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher have already been sold, and right-back Jeremie Frimpong has arrived from Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool is also pushing ahead in talks to land Milos Kerkez, Bournemouth’s left-back, and Florian Wirtz, a highly-rated playmaker from Bayer Leverkusen.
On a more positive note, the club has extended contract offers to eight rising stars in the Academy. These include defenders Wellity Lucky, Terence Miles, and Emmanuel Airoboma; midfielders Michael Laffey and Kyle Kelly; and attacking talents Keyrol Figueroa, Ranel Young, and Kareem Ahmed.
The Academy, based at Kirkby, is also undergoing coaching changes. U18s boss Marc Bridge-Wilkinson has stepped down, and U16s coach Lewis Nightingale is reportedly in the running to replace him.
This wave of departures follows last summer’s clear-out, which saw 11 players leave upon the expiration of their deals — including first-team names like Joel Matip, Thiago Alcântara, and Adrian. Matip and Thiago retired, while Adrian returned to Spain to rejoin Real Betis.
Several of the 2024 leavers have since secured new opportunities elsewhere. Notable moves include Mateusz Musialowski signing for Omonia, Melkamu Frauendorf joining Hannover, and Adam Lewis linking up with Morecambe.
