Trump: U.S. Could Join Iran-Israel Conflict Amid Rising Tensions

U.S. President Donald Trump has said the United States might become involved in the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, as hostilities between the two nations intensify.

In a previously undisclosed off-camera interview with ABC News senior political correspondent Rachel Scott, Trump acknowledged the growing crisis and noted that discussions with Iran about its nuclear program are ongoing. He added that Tehran may now be more inclined to strike a deal due to the escalating violence.

“It’s possible we could get involved,” Trump said, referring to the unfolding conflict between the regional rivals.

Trump also disclosed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had reached out, offering to help mediate the situation. “He is ready. He called me about it. We had a long talk,” Trump said.

The comments came in the wake of a new wave of attacks. Iran launched multiple missile strikes on Israeli cities, including Tamra and Bat Yam, early Sunday in retaliation for Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian military, nuclear, and oil infrastructure.

The ongoing conflict has led to major casualties. In Tamra, four people, including a child, died during the overnight strikes. In Bat Yam, rescue operations were still underway as emergency crews searched for survivors in the rubble.

This marks the third straight day of heavy aerial exchanges between Iran and Israel.

Trump also commented on the diplomatic front, revealing that while a planned sixth round of U.S.-Iran nuclear negotiations in Oman was canceled, dialogue has not stopped.

“There’s no deadline,” Trump said, when asked about the pace of talks. “They’re still talking. They’d like to make a deal.”

He added that the escalating military tensions may, paradoxically, speed up the negotiation process. “It may have forced a deal to go quicker, actually,” Trump suggested.
