Kano Police Launch Crackdown on Thuggery

In response to recent violent outbreaks, the Kano State Police Command has launched a renewed offensive against street thuggery, locally known as Yan Daba.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has issued strict directives to Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical units to identify and dismantle known hideouts used by these criminal gangs across the state.

According to a statement released on Sunday by Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Hussaini, the Commissioner held a security summit on Saturday where he emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards thug-related violence.

CP Bakori warned that the days of tolerating Daba activities are over. He called for preemptive action by officers to curb any further escalation and reassured the public of the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and order. He stressed that residents should feel safe in their homes.

To achieve this, the command has deployed a comprehensive strategy involving intelligence-driven raids on suspected locations. Officers are instructed to respond swiftly to credible tips and neutralize any threats.

In addition, the police will intensify community engagement, working with local leaders and residents to improve neighborhood security. CP Bakori also pledged to strengthen cooperation with other security agencies to ensure a united and effective front against thuggery and criminal activities.

He applauded the dedication of officers on the ground and called on the public to remain alert and assist law enforcement by reporting any suspicious behavior.

“Our top priority is the safety of every Kano resident,” the statement concluded. “We won’t relent until Yan Daba gangs and other criminal elements are rooted out completely.”
