Tragic Road Crash Claims 9 Lives in Jigawa |
Nine people lost their lives and several others were injured in a fatal car accident in Jigawa State on Saturday around 2 p.m., according to the state police command.
Police spokesperson, Shiisu Adam, confirmed in a statement that the accident involved two Volkswagen Golf 3 saloon cars. One of the cars, bearing registration number Kaduna MKA 687 AY, was being driven by 35-year-old Adamu Sunusi from Hadejia LGA, en route to Gujungu from Abuja.
Preliminary investigations indicate the accident occurred after one of the drivers lost control, resulting in a head-on collision that forced both vehicles off the road. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and the injured victims were taken to Ringim General Hospital for medical care.
Commissioner of Police, CP A.T. Abdullahi, extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a swift recovery. He urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations, avoid excessive speed, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition to prevent similar tragedies.
The police also reported that 11 passengers are currently receiving treatment and are responding positively. Efforts are ongoing to identify all victims and inform their families.
Authorities assured the public that further details will be released as the investigation continues.
