Tinubu’s Government Failing Nigerians — Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former adviser to President Tinubu and ex-spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum, has strongly criticized the current administration for not improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians. Speaking on Channels TV's "Paradigm" programme, he highlighted that the removal of fuel subsidy worsened conditions for the average citizen.
While acknowledging that reversing the subsidy removal is unrealistic, Baba-Ahmed stressed the need for better management of the funds saved—especially at the state and local levels. He urged Tinubu to fight corruption, insecurity, and poverty, while focusing more on infrastructure and social development.
According to him, funds allocated to governors—particularly APC ones—should be monitored to prevent misuse. “There is so much waste and corruption,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed also lamented that every Nigerian president since 1999 has performed worse than their predecessor. He praised parts of Obasanjo’s early rule, described Yar’adua as a promising leader cut short, and criticized Jonathan’s leadership as poor. He condemned Buhari for not governing effectively and said Tinubu started off on the wrong foot, motivated more by entitlement than vision.
He dismissed government claims of economic progress measured by international agencies, insisting the real benchmark is the daily experience of citizens. By that measure, he concluded, Tinubu’s government has failed to meet expectations.
He concluded by blaming Nigeria’s democratic failures on selfish leadership, arguing that leaders across all administrations have prioritized personal interests over public service.
