Segun Sowunmi: I’ll Join APC If I Ever Leave PDP – Because of Buhari and Tinubu

Segun Sowunmi, a longtime ally of Atiku Abubakar, has expressed openness to joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing his respect for the political consistency of President Bola Tinubu and former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking on TVC's Your View, the former spokesperson for Atiku’s 2023 presidential campaign stated that while he remains in the PDP, he might reconsider his loyalty if party leaders continue to weaken the party. He praised Tinubu and Buhari for their stability in politics, contrasting them with politicians who frequently switch allegiances.
“If I ever leave the PDP, it’ll be for the APC because Tinubu and Buhari are politically stable. They've been consistent since 1998,” Sowunmi said.
He added that before making such a move, he would consult APC's National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, and carefully review the party’s constitution.
Sowunmi also criticized Atiku’s current push for opposition coalitions, arguing that such movements cause instability. “This endless search for new platforms every election cycle irritates me. Stability matters in politics,” he said.
Although once a vocal critic of President Tinubu, Sowunmi’s tone has shifted since their recent meeting. In an interview on Channels TV, he said his discussion with Tinubu gave him deeper insight into the president’s policies. He added that he’s known Tinubu since 1994 and could see himself working with him.
In a bold remark, Sowunmi claimed Tinubu is politically smarter than his rivals, including Peter Obi, Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate.
