Ndume Warns Tinubu: “Jonathan Had 22 Governors and Still Lost” |
Senator Ali Ndume has issued a strong warning to President Bola Tinubu, drawing parallels between the current administration and the failed re-election bid of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Ndume cautioned that mass endorsements and governors' backing may not guarantee victory if the economic hardship and growing public frustration are not urgently addressed.
> “Jonathan also had 22 governors who endorsed him like we did now. And what happened? Jonathan lost woefully,” Ndume said.
He emphasized that:
Tinubu could face the same fate if his government fails to deliver real change.
Ongoing grassroots discontent could turn the tide, regardless of APC’s internal support.
Rumors of automatic tickets for lawmakers could alienate party foot soldiers, weakening the party’s electoral machinery.
> “You cannot rely on governors alone,” Ndume warned.
He urged President Tinubu to implement people-centered policies and focus on making Nigerians happy within the next two years, stressing that this is the only sure path to securing another term.
