Eid-el-Kabir: Tinubu Urges Prayers for Troops and Support for the Vulnerable

President Bola Tinubu has appealed to Nigerians to intensify prayers for the nation’s military and security forces, especially those on the frontlines fighting terrorism and banditry.

Speaking after attending Eid-al-Adha prayers at the Dodan Barracks Eid Ground in Lagos, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of remembering vulnerable citizens and security operatives in prayers during this season of sacrifice. His remarks were shared in a statement by his spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

“This is a time to show compassion and give to those in need,” Tinubu said. “Let us continue to live in unity, be our brothers' keepers, and extend love to everyone around us.”

He further stressed the importance of praying for security personnel, recognizing their sacrifices in protecting the nation. “We must not forget them. Their efforts are critical to our safety. Let us support them through our prayers and responsible citizenship.”

During the sermon, the Chief Imam of Lagos State, Suleiman Oluwatoyin Abu-Nola, reminded the congregation of Prophet Abraham’s example of sacrifice. He urged worshippers to embrace selflessness for the sake of their families, communities, and the nation.

“The lesson of today is sacrifice,” said the Imam. “We must serve God sincerely and be mindful of the poor and our neighbors. For Nigeria to progress, we must be united and rise above ethnic divisions.”

He added that national development demands collective effort, regardless of tribal background—be it Igbo, Yoruba, or Hausa.

Several high-profile individuals attended the Eid prayers alongside the President, including Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of State for Defence Bello Muhammed Matawalle, Deputy Governor of Lagos State Femi Hamzat, and former Lagos Governor Babatunde Fashola.

Others present included National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa, as well as business leaders like Aliko Dangote (Dangote Group), Abdul Samad Rabiu (BUA Group), and Wale Tinubu (Oando). Long-time associate of the President, Professor Shaffideen Amuwo, also attended. (NAN)
