Sallah: Emir Sanusi Cancels Durbar Celebrations Amid Security Concerns |
The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called off the traditional Sallah Durbar festivities, citing security concerns and potential unrest.
Speaking to the press from the Kofar Kudu palace, Emir Sanusi explained that the decision came after discussions with the Kano State Government, which presented compelling evidence of plots to exploit the event to stir tension in the state.
“Following a series of consultations and advice, the Emirate Council has decided to cancel this year’s Sallah Durbar,” the Emir announced.
He further instructed district, ward, and village heads across the emirate to remain in their respective locations and avoid gatherings that could lead to any unforeseen security issues.
This development follows a statement earlier in the week from Kano’s joint security agencies, reaffirming that the state-wide ban on all Durbar-related activities remains in effect.
