Xavi Alonso Compares Real Madrid’s Valverde to Gerrard |
Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has drawn a striking comparison between midfielder Fede Valverde and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
Alonso, who once played alongside Gerrard during their time at Liverpool, made the remark following Real Madrid’s 3-1 victory over Pachuca in the FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday.
Valverde, who found the back of the net in the win against the Mexican side, earned high praise from the Spanish coach.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Alonso said:
“Fede Valverde is a Steven Gerrard profile. Every coach wants a Fede Valverde in his team. He’s incredible.”
Valverde will now look to maintain his impressive form as Real Madrid prepare to take on RB Salzburg in their next fi xture on Friday.
