Catholic Priest, 9 Others Abducted by Terrorists in Borno — 1 Killed |
In a fresh wave of terror in Borno State, suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP militants have abducted Rev. Fr. Daniel Afina, a Catholic priest, along with nine others, and killed one person during an ambush on the Gwoza-Limankara Road.
Sources say the priest, who also serves as a project coordinator for a Christian NGO, was traveling from Mubi with two staff members when the attackers struck. One staff member was shot dead on the spot, while the others were abducted at gunpoint.
The priest was later allowed to speak briefly with his family to confirm his abduction, but no ransom demand has been made yet.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has confirmed the incident and the loss of one of their staff.
This incident marks yet another grim reminder of the worsening insecurity in Nigeria’s northeast.
