Breaking: Air India Flight with Over 200 On Board Crashes |
Air India has confirmed that its Flight 171, traveling from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in a tragic crash on Thursday.
“It is with deep sorrow that I confirm Air India Flight 171 was in a tragic accident today,” said Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Air India, in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of all those impacted by this heartbreaking incident.”
Chandrasekaran noted that the airline has set up an emergency response center and a dedicated support team to assist the families of those on board.
A local airport official told AFP that the aircraft was carrying over 200 passengers. Flight AI171 was operated using a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which typically seats more than 200 passengers.
Further details on the crash and the fate of those aboard are still emerging.
