Real Madrid legend Marcelo has revealed his choice for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, backing his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo for the honour.
Marcelo made the statement after participating in a charity legends match between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, which ended in an entertaining 3-3 draw. The game featured iconic names like Julio Baptista, Toni Kroos, and Raul, who were among the goals for the Madrid side.
When asked who he believes deserves the Ballon d’Or this year, Marcelo responded simply and directly:
“Who should win the Ballon d’Or? Cristiano Ronaldo,” he told Madrid Zone.
Ronaldo, now playing in the Saudi Pro League, had an impressive season, finishing as the league’s top scorer with 25 goals. He has also played a key role in leading Portugal to the final of the UEFA Nations League, where they are set to face Spain.
Despite his performance, Ronaldo is not widely considered a frontrunner for the 2025 Ballon d’Or. Current favourites for the award include Barcelona's rising star Lamine Yamal, PSG winger Ousmane Dembele, Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe, and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
Interestingly, Ronaldo himself recently stated that the Ballon d’Or should go to a player from the team that won the UEFA Champions League—an honour Real Madrid claimed once again this season.
