The Hostage and Missing Families Forum has warned that ending military action against Iran without leveraging it to secure the release of hostages in Gaza would represent a “serious diplomatic failure.”

“The ceasefire agreement must be extended to include Gaza,” the forum urges. “We call on the government to initiate immediate negotiations aimed at bringing home all the hostages and putting an end to the war. If a ceasefire can be reached with Iran, it’s also possible to end the conflict in Gaza.”

“For the past 12 days and nights, the Israeli public has been gripped with fear because of Iran. Now, we return to sleepless nights worrying about the hostages,” the forum adds.

Failing to use the momentum from the Iran operation to retrieve the hostages, the forum repeats, would be “a grave diplomatic failure.”

According to Israeli officials, terror groups in the Gaza Strip continue to hold 50 hostages — including 49 of the 251 abducted during the Hamas-led assault on October 7, 2023. The IDF has confirmed that at least 28 of them are deceased. Twenty are believed to be alive, while there are serious concerns for the condition of two others. Hamas also holds the body of an IDF soldier killed in Gaza in 2014.

“Trump announced a ceasefire. If all sides uphold it, it will hold,” the unnamed official said.

So far, neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nor other senior Israeli officials have made any formal public statements on the matter.

U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that a ceasefire is now in place, seemingly referring to a truce between Israel and Iran.

“The ceasefire is now in effect. Please do not violate it! — Donald J. Trump, President of the United States,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.

While Iranian state TV has acknowledged the ceasefire, Israeli officials have remained silent—particularly after a recent missile strike on a Beersheba apartment building claimed the lives of at least four people.
