Fresh Wave of Terror: Bandits Kill Two, Abduct Several in Zamfara

Tragedy struck again in Zamfara State as armed bandits launched a brutal assault on Sabon Sarah, a community in Bakura Local Government Area, in the early hours of Wednesday. The attack left two residents dead, one injured, and several others—mostly young girls—abducted.

Security analyst Bakatsine disclosed the incident via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, detailing the extent of the violence that has once again thrown the region into mourning.

“Bandits attacked Sabon Sarah community in Bakura LGA, Zamfara State. They killed two people, injured one, and kidnapped several individuals, including adolescent girls,” the post read.

So far, state authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.

This latest attack is part of a disturbing trend that continues to grip Zamfara. The state has become a flashpoint for banditry, with escalating violence leaving thousands dead, abducted, or displaced over the years.

Earlier this week, Katuru village in Shinkafi LGA came under siege, resulting in injuries to two residents and the abduction of two women. In another horrifying episode, bandits stormed a mosque in Unguwar Galadunci, Anka LGA, during evening prayers, kidnapping several worshippers and injuring many others.

The growing insecurity has triggered outrage across civil society. Advocacy groups have urged both federal and state governments to act decisively, warning that continued silence and inaction only embolden criminal elements.

Amnesty International also weighed in, condemning the spate of attacks and labeling them a stark failure of the government to protect its most vulnerable citizens.

As fear tightens its grip on communities across Zamfara, residents are left wondering when help will finally come—and whether the government can rise to the challenge before more lives are lost.
