In addition to securing World Cup qualification, Finidi is also expected to prioritize local players in his team selection. As a coach who currently works in Nigeria with Enyimba, he is well-positioned to identify and develop talent from the domestic league.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set a clear objective for newly appointed Super Eagles coach, Finidi George: secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With the team currently sitting third in their group after two draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, the stakes are high.

According to NFF technical committee member, Ikpeba, the upcoming matches against South Africa and Benin in June are crucial. "Nigeria will play the games of their lives... We are on the back foot after drawing our first two World Cup qualifiers, so we have to win the next games," he emphasized.

Ikpeba expressed confidence in Finidi's ability to get the best out of the players, stating, "We have the players, and if Finidi can get the best out of them, we will qualify for the World Cup."

In addition to securing World Cup qualification, Finidi is also expected to prioritize local players in his team selection. As a coach who currently works in Nigeria with Enyimba, he is well-positioned to identify and develop talent from the domestic league. Ikpeba noted, "He will give local players a chance in his team... He will have to look inwards, that's how we got the player Finidi George."

With this mandate, Finidi George faces a significant challenge, but also a tremendous opportunity to make a lasting impact on Nigerian football.
