The Governing Council of Federal University Gashua (FUGA), Yobe State, has officially announced that the prestigious position of Vice-Chancellor will become vacant on February 11, 2026. In line with the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provision) (Amendment) No. 11 Act 1993, as amended, the Council invites qualified and experienced candidates in university administration to submit their applications for this top academic and leadership role.

About Federal University Gashua
Established in February 2013, the Federal University Gashua (FUGA) was created to expand access to higher education and improve its quality in Nigeria. The university is located in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State, and has grown significantly over the past decade.
Currently, FUGA boasts:
- 5 Faculties
- 36 Undergraduate Programmes
- A School of Postgraduate Studies
- 3 Research Centres (Irrigation and Desertification Studies, Gum Arabic Research, and a Centre for Excellence).

The Position of Vice-Chancellor
The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Academic Officer of the University.
The role involves:
- Overseeing academic, physical, and infrastructural development of the university.
- Ensuring high-level academic standards, discipline, and welfare for both staff and students.
- Promoting peace, stability, and good governance within the university community.
- Establishing relationships with local, national, and international agencies.
- Attracting resources, partnerships, and benefactions to further the mission of the institution.
Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates applying for the role of Vice-Chancellor must meet the following criteria:

Academic & Professional Background
- Must have at least 15 years of uninterrupted teaching and research experience in a public university.
- Should have served in senior administrative roles such as Head of Department, Dean, Provost, or Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
- Must be a Professor for not less than 10 years by February 10, 2026.

Scholarship & Research Excellence
- Evidence of significant scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- A Google Scholar, Scopus, or ResearchGate H-index of at least 10 citations.
- Proof of securing and leading at least one funded research project.

Leadership & Vision
- A clear understanding of the vision and mission of FUGA, with a vision statement (max 1,000 words).
- Strong interpersonal and team-building skills to bridge relationships across the university community.
- Ability to attract local and international research grants.

Integrity & Governance
- High level of integrity in financial and administrative management.
- Strong entrepreneurial drive and the ability to mobilize resources for university development.
- Proficiency in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Other Requirements
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and student welfare.
- Must not be more than 65 years old at the time of assumption of duty.
Tenure and Conditions of Service
- The Vice-Chancellor shall serve a single term of five (5) years.
- Conditions of service will align with those applicable to Vice-Chancellors in Nigerian Federal Universities, as determined by the Federal Government.

Interested candidates are required to submit 30 copies of their application alongside 30 copies of their detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV). Each CV should be signed, dated, and accompanied by photocopies of academic and professional credentials.
