Miyetti Allah Calls for Dialogue with Oyo State Government Over Alleged Indiscriminate Arrests

The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Socio-Cultural Association has urged the Oyo State Government to open constructive dialogue following alleged cases of indiscriminate arrests of its members and the seizure of their cattle across various parts of the state.
During a press conference held in Akinyele on Tuesday, the association’s National Secretary, Alhaji Sanni Muhammed, appealed directly to Governor Seyi Makinde to urgently address these grievances. According to him, the group seeks peaceful solutions over confrontation, stressing that the ongoing incidents threaten the livelihoods of Fulani herders in the region.
Allegations of Harassment and Unlawful Demands
Muhammed explained that repeated attempts to engage the state’s Rule of Law and Enforcement Department have so far yielded no meaningful results.
“We are seeking the timely intervention of our attentive governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde,” he said. “We are men and women of peace who conduct our trade in Oyo and consider ourselves citizens of this state.”
The association reported that raids on cattle ranches often occur during early morning hours. In addition, there are allegations that certain individuals, claiming to represent the government, have demanded illegal cash transfers from their members.
According to Miyetti Allah, these actions—if true—reflect a pattern of discrimination and unjust law enforcement that has heightened fear and tension within their community.

Muhammed emphasised that the association does not oppose Oyo State’s anti-cattle rearing law but wants its implementation reviewed to ensure it does not result in targeted discrimination against Fulani herders.
“Your Excellency, who are we to challenge the government? We are merely loyal citizens seeking understanding, justice, and protection. We urge you to direct relevant agencies to investigate the alleged illegal cash demands and harassment faced by our members,” he stated.
