Kano State Awards ₦40.8 Billion Contracts for 17 Township Road Projects

The Kano State Government has officially awarded contracts worth over ₦40.8 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of 17 major township roads across key Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the Kano metropolis.

The beneficiary LGAs include Gwale, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Fagge, Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala, and Ungogo. This large-scale road infrastructure investment aligns with Governor Abba Yusuf’s campaign promise to significantly improve transportation and connectivity across the state.

Details of the Projects and Costs

Speaking during a guided tour with Alhassan Yahaya, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, explained that the contracts reflect the government’s strong commitment to infrastructure development.

Some of the notable projects include:

Tudun-Yola–Gwarzo Road and Dansudau Bypass – ₦1.896 billion.
Jafar–Madobi Road and Underpass – ₦1.323 billion.
Sabo Bakin Zuwo Road Rehabilitation – ₦2.014 billion.
Muhammad Buhari Road Rehabilitation – ₦4.108 billion.
Rijiyar Lemo Road – ₦494.367 million.
Kwanar Durba – Fammar-Kunau Kure Road Erosion Control – ₦205.983 million.
Airport Road Rehabilitation – ₦5.956 billion.

Additionally, the state is investing:

₦13.3 billion in the Rogo–Bari–Falgore–Mahangi roads (Rogo LGA).
₦6.9 billion in the Panda–Hamdullahi–Albasu–Salkwayan Dutse roads (Albasu LGA).

Economic and Social Benefits

According to Waiya, these roads were carefully prioritised for their economic and social importance, as they will:

Reduce traffic congestion in urban areas.
Improve road connectivity for residents and businesses.
Facilitate faster movement of agricultural goods from rural farms to urban markets.
Boost local economic activities and commerce.
Enhance overall driving experience and safety.

The commissioner emphasised that upon completion, these road projects will significantly transform the state’s transport network, improving quality of life for millions of residents.

Commendation from NUJ

NUJ President Alhassan Yahaya praised Governor Yusuf for his commitment to urban transformation and for ensuring that sufficient funds are allocated to critical sectors like road infrastructure and education.

He noted that education funding is an essential investment for the state’s long-term growth, and commended the administration for recognising its role in driving sustainable development.
