The Industrial Training Fund has reaffirmed its commitment to Jos, Plateau State, dismissing rumours of relocating its headquarters to Abuja.
ITF Reaffirms Commitment to Jos and Plateau State
The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has firmly denied claims suggesting a planned relocation of its headquarters from Jos, Plateau State, to Abuja. In a statement released on Friday by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Thomas Ngor, the Fund clarified that there are no ongoing discussions or proposals to move its base of operations.
This announcement comes after the Plateau State House of Assembly, during Thursday’s plenary, passed a resolution rejecting what it described as a “purported relocation plan.” The lawmakers argued that such a move would negatively impact the state’s economy, heritage, and employment opportunities.
Plateau Assembly’s Concerns Over Economic Impact
Speaker Naanlong Daniel presided over the session, where members unanimously resolved that relocating the ITF headquarters would be detrimental to Plateau State.
The resolution followed a motion raised by Theodore Bala Maiyaki, representing Quaan-Pan South Constituency, who called attention to the public uproar over the alleged move. Lawmakers stressed the importance of the ITF’s presence in the state, citing its role in job creation, technical training, and local economic growth.
ITF Highlights Historical Ties to Jos
In its official statement, the ITF emphasised that Jos has been its home since 1976, when the headquarters was moved from Lagos. The Fund credited the city for fostering a strong institutional identity, shaped by decades of collaboration with local communities and industries.
“The ITF deeply values its longstanding historical ties and socio-economic contributions to Plateau State, which have been integral to its identity since 1976,” the statement read.
No Relocation Plans on the Table
The ITF further assured the public that neither its management, governing council, nor supervising ministry has discussed or approved any relocation. The Fund called the relocation rumours unfounded and misleading, urging Nigerians to disregard them.
Strengthening Collaboration with Stakeholders
Looking ahead, the ITF expressed readiness to engage with the Plateau State Government and other stakeholders to strengthen cooperation and address any concerns. The Fund sees dialogue as a way to enhance skill development programs, support local industries, and reinforce its presence in Jos.
