Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a patriot who diligently served Nigeria as a soldier, administrator, and statesman.

Speaking in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo emphasized that Buhari’s death comes at a time when Nigeria is in urgent need of the wisdom and experience of its former leaders to navigate the nation’s current challenges.

“It is with a heavy heart that I received this afternoon the news of the passing of a colleague, comrade, and fellow patriot, General Muhammadu Buhari. As a soldier, he served his country with honour; as an administrator, he fulfilled his duties with dedication; and as a statesman, he upheld the values of unity and nationhood,” Obasanjo stated.

He lamented the timing of Buhari’s death, noting that Nigeria is currently facing a crisis that would have benefited greatly from the insight and counsel of its past leaders.

“His passing comes at a time when the country needs the collective wisdom and statesmanship of all who have once steered the affairs of this nation. His absence will be deeply felt,” he said.

Obasanjo concluded by offering prayers for the peaceful repose of Buhari’s soul:

“He will be sorely missed. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
