If your MTN line is barred (you can't make calls, send texts, or access data), the reason could be SIM registration issues, unpaid bills (for postpaid), blacklisting, or call barring settings. Here’s how to fix it:
1. Check the Reason for the Barring
Before you unbar the line, know what caused it. MTN may bar a line due to:
- NIN not linked or invalid
- SIM not registered properly
- Line reported lost/stolen
- Network security issues
- Call barring settings enabled by you
2. Check and Link Your NIN
One of the most common reasons for a barred MTN line is not linking your NIN.
To check if your NIN is linked:
- Dial:
*785# - Or: Send your 11-digit NIN to 785 via SMS.
If not linked, you'll receive a prompt to do so.
You can also link NIN online via https://nin.mtn.ng
3. Disable Call Barring (If Enabled)
Sometimes, your line may be barred because Call Barring was activated.
To disable call barring:

Wait for confirmation message.
4. Contact MTN Customer Care
If none of the above work, contact MTN for direct help:
- Dial 300 from any MTN line
- Or call 08031000300 from any other network
- Or visit the nearest MTN service center with a valid ID
Ask them to verify and unbar your line. They may request NIN or proof of ownership.
5. Visit MTN Service Center (If Needed)
For cases like:
- SIM swap needed
- SIM registration issues
- Blacklisted SIM
You must visit an MTN outlet with:
- A valid ID (National ID, Voter’s card, etc.)
- Your NIN Slip
- The barred SIM card
Important Note:
If your line was barred due to fraud, lost SIM, or reported stolen, only MTN can restore it after investigation.
