UN Condemns Benue Massacre, Demands Justice for Victims

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has strongly condemned the recent deadly attacks in Benue State, North Central Nigeria, where dozens of civilians were brutally killed, many while sleeping, and others displaced in the village of Yelwata.
Speaking through his deputy spokesperson, Farhan Haq, Guterres expressed concern over the worsening violence and stressed the importance of holding the perpetrators accountable.
“The Secretary-General condemns the killing of innocent civilians, including in Nigeria,” Haq said. “We hope that those responsible for this violence will be found and brought to justice.”
Tinubu to Visit Benue, Calls for Peace
In response to the tragedy, President Bola Tinubu has also denounced the attacks and urged all parties in Benue to embrace peace, mutual understanding, and unity.
As part of renewed efforts to end the persistent conflict, President Tinubu is expected to visit Benue on Wednesday, where he will meet with a broad range of stakeholders—including traditional rulers, religious leaders, political figures, community heads, and youth representatives—to explore long-term solutions to the crisis.
The president also extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of victims and all those affected by the violence.
