The Delta State Police Command has apprehended two individuals seen in a viral video smoking what appeared to be cannabis on top of a police patrol van while making lewd gestures toward officers.
The men, identified as 34-year-old Patrick Asini and 20-year-old Tega Ojo, were arrested after the video circulated widely on X (formerly Twitter), sparking backlash from the public and prompting immediate action from the authorities.
In the footage, shared by user @dammiedammie35, one of the suspects is shown smoking on a patrol van marked “Nigeria Police Force Anti-crime Patrol, Oghara Division.” A voice in the background is heard saying, “Tell them, f*** the cops, bro. Pass me some weed, man,” while giving the middle finger to a nearby officer.
The incident, believed to have taken place at a car wash, drew the attention of the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the arrests on his X account.
“The two suspects, Patrick Junior Asini, 34, and Tega Ojo, 20, seen in the video, have been taken into custody. The following items were recovered from them,” Edafe posted on Thursday.
Items seized include a military khaki uniform, a green beret, a face mask, an axe, a cutlass, six smartphones, four laptops, suspected cannabis, weed crushers, and Rizla rolling papers—commonly linked to marijuana use.
Edafe reaffirmed the police’s commitment to upholding the law and commented on public relations with law enforcement, saying:
“Police is your friend. It just depends on how you interpret it.”
