Kano Governor Celebrates General Abdulsalami Abubakar at 83

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has congratulated Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), on reaching the age of 83.
In a statement released on Friday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf hailed the retired general as a devoted patriot and respected elder whose efforts have been crucial to Nigeria’s unity, democracy, and peace.
He acknowledged General Abdulsalami’s pivotal role in steering the country back to democratic rule in 1999, describing it as a landmark achievement enabled by his vision and leadership.
“General Abdulsalami Abubakar stands as a symbol of hope and selfless leadership. His dedication to fostering peace, promoting national unity, and upholding good governance remains a guiding light for generations,” the governor said.
The governor also offered prayers for the general’s continued health, wisdom, and longevity, expressing optimism that his influential voice will continue to enrich national conversations.
“As you celebrate your 83rd birthday, the government and people of Kano State join millions across Nigeria in honouring your remarkable legacy and wishing you many more years of meaningful service,” Yusuf added.
General Abubakar led Nigeria as Head of State from June 1998 to May 1999, overseeing a peaceful transition to democratic governance.
