Nigerian soldiers under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled an early morning attack by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters on the Naval Base at Lake Chad’s Fish Dam.
The attempted assault occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on Wednesday, according to a statement released by the Nigerian Army via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
Terrorists Target Swamp-Clearing Equipment
The insurgents aimed to destroy newly acquired swamp bogeys—heavy-duty machines purchased by the Borno State Government to clear waterways around Lake Chad.
However, troops at the base fought back fiercely, receiving reinforcements from Baga, in a two-hour gun battle that ended with the terrorists being forced to retreat.
“Scores of terrorists were neutralised, and improvised explosive device (IED) materials were recovered,” the statement read.
Damage and Casualties
While the attack was largely unsuccessful, the army confirmed:
- Minimal incursion by the terrorists
- Destruction of an ambulance and two other vehicles
- Some personnel sustained injuries
“The air component is currently conducting pursuit operations along the waterways to further decimate fleeing insurgents,” the military said.
