Police Arrest 11 Suspected Kidnappers in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended 11 suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a farmer and the abduction of two women in Ilero, a town in the Kajola Local Government Area of the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Johnson Adenola, disclosed this during a visit to the affected community.

CP Adenola assured residents that the two women, who were kidnapped on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, would soon be rescued and reunited with their families.

The Commissioner, accompanied by senior officers of the Command, said his visit to Ilero was aimed at engaging key stakeholders—particularly the youth—to dissuade them from proceeding with a planned protest, which he warned could be hijacked by criminal elements.

During the meeting, the Elero of Ilero Land, Oba Wasiu Oyedele, praised the police and other security agencies for their continued efforts to maintain peace in the area.

However, the monarch strongly condemned the persistent attacks on farmers and the destruction of crops by suspected herders. He emphasized that the indigenes of the town have always been accommodating to people of all ethnic backgrounds and called on all non-locals in the area to embrace peaceful coexistence.

Representatives from Iwajowa and Kajola local government areas also voiced their concerns, urging the police and other security outfits to intensify rescue operations for the two kidnapped women, who were taken from an agro-products shop while on duty.

Meanwhile, the Seriki Fulani of the zone, Muhamud Yusuf, pledged the cooperation of the Fulani herders and other non-indigenous residents with both the police and local vigilante groups. He noted that many of the attacks in the area were carried out by unfamiliar herders and criminal elements who do not live within the host communities.
