Plateau Governor Unveils 15 New Buses to Mark Democracy Day

In celebration of Nigeria’s Democracy Day, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State inaugurated 15 brand-new metro buses as part of efforts to enhance the public transport system in Jos and its environs.
Alongside the bus launch, the governor commissioned several key projects, including a laboratory, pediatric ward, office complex at Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Utonkon Bridge and adjoining roads, a new administrative block, and the refurbished Joshua Dariye Hall at Plateau State Polytechnic.
This marks the second batch of buses launched under his administration, raising the total number to 30. Governor Mutfwang attributed the revival of Plateau Express Service, once a thriving legacy institution, to disciplined leadership and prudent use of state funds—not federal grants.
He emphasized the importance of transportation in addressing the economic impact of subsidy removal, aligning with President Tinubu’s directive to ease citizens’ burdens.
The event also celebrated the first female driver in the bus service’s history, reinforcing the governor’s support for youth and women empowerment. He disclosed that the new buses were purchased brand-new and not imported used vehicles.
Mutfwang revealed plans for continued development through “Plateau Express 3.0,” partnerships to modernize Jos Airport into a cargo hub, and potential railway improvements.
He urged citizens to safeguard public investments and prioritize development over political differences, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to improving infrastructure and public services across the state.
