Democracy Day: NGF Calls for Unity to Build a Thriving Nation

In a message marking Nigeria’s Democracy Day, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) urged all citizens to come together in building a more inclusive and prosperous country.
The statement, signed by NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, commended Nigeria’s 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance. The governors reaffirmed their collective commitment to strengthening democratic principles and advancing national development.
“On behalf of all governors, I extend warm congratulations to Nigerians as we commemorate Democracy Day,” AbdulRazaq stated. “June 12 is a landmark in our national history, and we stand with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and others in honouring those who fought for democratic rule.”
While acknowledging notable progress since 1999, the NGF emphasized that Nigeria’s democratic journey continues and requires ongoing dialogue, accountability, and collaboration across all levels.
“Despite advancements, we still face challenges. However, through constructive engagement and the tools of democracy, we can overcome these hurdles together,” the statement added.
Governor AbdulRazaq assured Nigerians that the NGF is dedicated to working with the federal government, civil society, and development partners to ensure peace, inclusion, and prosperity for every citizen.
“As public servants, we pledge to work collectively to deepen democracy and build a nation where every Nigerian has a stake in our future,” he concluded.
The Forum encouraged citizens to remain engaged and optimistic as they reflect on the country’s democratic journey.
