Massive Crowd Welcomes Kano Governor Abba Yusuf After Hajj Return

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State received a rousing welcome on Wednesday as thousands of supporters of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) flooded the streets to celebrate his return from the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
His flight, which came via Lagos, touched down at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport at about 2:50 p.m.
Supporters Flood Streets for Procession
The procession from the airport to the Kano Government House took over five hours, a journey that would typically last less than 30 minutes, due to the large turnout.
Supporters lined the route along Murtala Mohammed Way, singing solidarity songs and waving party flags. The governor, clearly thrilled, acknowledged the crowd with waves and smiles from his motorcade.
Governor’s Achievements Highlighted
A statement accompanying the governor’s return celebrated his “people-focused governance,” citing key achievements, including:
Revival of 26 public institutions abandoned by the previous administration
Resumption of the Kwankwasiyya scholarship scheme (local and foreign)
Upgrade of 11 Primary Health Centres to general hospitals
Payment of SSCE fees for 141,175 students
Launch of the Kano State Climate Change Policy
Ongoing solar-powered borehole construction
Planting of 3 million tree seedlings
Calls for Second Term in 2027
Amid the jubilation, supporters chanted slogans backing the governor for re-election, with calls for "AKY Go Again in 2027" echoing through the crowd.
