Labour Party Calls for Justice and Military Action Over Benue Massacre

The Labour Party has denounced the recent mass killings in Benue State and called for the immediate deployment of security personnel to at-risk communities in Nigeria's North Central zone.

In a statement issued by the party’s acting National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, the party described the killings as a horrific resurgence of violence, demanding a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of those responsible—regardless of their status or background.

Senator Usman mourned the deaths of over 100 individuals, including women, children, displaced persons, and security officers, highlighting the devastation of communities and livelihoods.

“These were not just numbers. They were people—children, mothers, fathers—whose lives were violently ended,” she said. “Families have been torn apart. Communities reduced to ashes. This is not just a Benue tragedy—it is a national disgrace.”

She further condemned the consistent targeting of vulnerable populations and the failure of government to uphold its duty to protect citizens. She described the violence as evidence of a severe leadership and security gap in the country.

Alongside a military response, the Labour Party also called for comprehensive humanitarian aid to support survivors—urging the government to provide food, shelter, healthcare, and trauma care for those affected.

Senator Usman encouraged Nigerians to go beyond passive outrage and demand real solutions, warning that silence would only fuel impunity.

“To the grieving, your pain is shared. We hear your cries for justice and we stand with you,” she said passionately.

The Labour Party reaffirmed its commitment to pushing for policies that protect the dignity and lives of all Nigerians, particularly those in conflict-prone areas.

“This bloodshed must stop. Nigeria cannot continue like this. Enough is enough,” Usman concluded.
