Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has boldly declared that his administration has constructed more roads than all previous state governments since 1999 combined.
The governor made this assertion on Tuesday while delivering his State of the State Address to the Imo State House of Assembly in Owerri.
“Without sounding immodest, our administration has built more roads than all previous administrations put together since 1999. From the dualised Owerri-Orlu and Owerri-Okigwe roads to the MCC-Toronto-Uratta corridor, we've proven that government can truly serve the needs of the people,” Uzodimma said.
He stated that his administration has completed over 120 roads across the state so far, with many others currently under construction.
“In the last 18 months alone, we’ve delivered 37 brand-new roads, the iconic International Conference Centre, and a befitting Government House Annex in Orlu,” he noted. “We also completed the Assumpta Flyover and the new Concorde-Hilton Hotel — both landmark legacy projects.”
Uzodimma revealed that President Bola Tinubu is expected to visit the state in August to commission several major projects scheduled for completion before the visit. He added that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has promised to provide street lighting for the newly constructed roads.
Speaking on education, the governor said his administration had renovated 305 primary schools—one in each ward across the state—along with numerous secondary schools. He added that the state is currently funding five tertiary institutions and expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for approving a N39 billion take-off grant for a new federal university in Imo.
On healthcare, Uzodimma announced the recovery of the Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH), the rehabilitation of 305 health centres, and the equipping of general hospitals. He also highlighted the launch of the Imo Health Insurance Scheme, designed to offer free medical services to residents, and noted that all three nursing schools in the state had regained full accreditation.
Turning to security, the governor asserted that peace has returned to Imo and warned that any form of violence or banditry would not be tolerated.
Reaffirming his commitment to judicial reforms, Uzodimma said the state had made significant progress in sports, winning 85 medals under his leadership. He also disclosed that 40,000 youths had been trained in digital skills and empowered with startup capital.
The governor further outlined ongoing strides in agriculture, housing, land administration, and power supply, including efforts to ensure 24-hour electricity across the state.
On the economy, Uzodimma revealed that Imo’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) had jumped from N400 million in 2020 to nearly N4 billion in 2025. He also noted that the state's debt had dropped substantially—from N259 billion in 2020 to N99 billion in 2025.
