Drop Your 2027 Presidential Ambition – Eradiri Urges Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been urged to abandon his 2027 presidential ambition for the sake of national unity and political stability.
Engr. Udengs Eradiri, former President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, made the appeal in a statement issued on Tuesday in Port Harcourt. He called on Atiku to prioritize the nation's interest, warning that his repeated attempts to lead Nigeria have caused significant harm—particularly to the Niger Delta region.
Eradiri, who previously served as Bayelsa State’s Commissioner for Youths and later Environment, accused Atiku of jeopardizing the region’s political and economic interests in pursuit of his personal ambition.
He claimed that Atiku’s desperation during the run-up to the 2023 general elections pushed Delta State into massive debt, alleging that former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was pressured into financing the PDP presidential campaign in exchange for the vice-presidential slot.
According to Eradiri, Atiku's actions disrupted the principle of power rotation between the North and South and contributed to the disintegration of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), weakening its role as a credible opposition force.
“I’m calling on Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to show true statesmanship by stepping aside from the 2027 presidential race,” Eradiri said.
“This is not about politics—it's a sincere assessment of the damage his ambition has inflicted, especially on the Niger Delta. After President Muhammadu Buhari's eight years in office, it was time for power to shift to the South. Instead, that opportunity was hijacked, and Atiku is still pressing on.”
He also stressed that Atiku’s insistence on running in 2023 created deep divisions within the PDP, crippling its capacity to hold the ruling party accountable.
“The PDP is in shambles today largely because of Atiku. His unrelenting ambition has fractured the opposition and stirred instability across the political landscape.
“A healthy democracy needs a strong opposition. Unfortunately, Atiku’s personal quest has severely undermined the PDP—an institution many Nigerians once looked to for meaningful alternatives,” he added.
Eradiri concluded by appealing to Atiku to rise above personal ambition and support younger, more inclusive candidates as Nigeria looks ahead to 2027.
