Iran Launches Missiles at Israel Following U.S. Strikes on Nuclear Facilities

Tensions in the Middle East exploded into open conflict early Sunday as Iran fired a wave of missiles at Israel in retaliation for a U.S. airstrike on its nuclear facilities, ordered by President Donald Trump.

According to Al Jazeera, several missiles struck central Israel, leaving at least 11 people injured. The outlet also released dramatic footage showing buildings engulfed in flames and emergency crews pulling survivors from the rubble.

“Iran has launched its first retaliatory missile strikes on Israel after the U.S. attack on Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordow. At least 11 people were injured in central Israel,” Al Jazeera reported.

The Iranian counterattack came less than 24 hours after President Trump declared the U.S. operation against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure a “very successful” mission.

The American strikes targeted key nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan—sites central to Iran’s contested nuclear program.

“We have completed our very successful attack on the three nuclear sites in Iran—Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan,” Trump announced.

“All planes have exited Iranian airspace. A full payload of bombs was dropped on Fordow. All aircraft are now safely returning.”

Trump hailed the mission as a demonstration of unmatched U.S. military strength.

“Congratulations to our great American warriors. No other military in the world could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention to this matter,” he declared.

However, Iran swiftly condemned the airstrikes. The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the U.S. action a grave provocation and warned that consequences were inevitable.

“The world must remember that it was the United States that initiated this dangerous war against Iran,” the ministry said in a statement issued shortly after the attacks.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Head of the Nuclear Safety System Centre sought to reassure the public, stating that no radiation had escaped from the targeted sites.

“Despite the criminal attack this morning on our nuclear facilities, no radioactive contamination or nuclear radiation has been detected outside the sites, thanks to precautionary measures in place,” he said.

As missiles rained down on Israeli cities, fears of a wider regional war intensified.

Though the Israeli military has yet to release an official statement, emergency alert systems were activated across central Israel, including Tel Aviv. Videos circulating online show sirens blaring and residents rushing for cover.

Back in the United States, political backlash is mounting. Prominent lawmakers, including Representative Ilhan Omar, condemned President Trump’s decision to launch strikes without congressional approval, warning of escalating chaos in the region.

“These strikes on Iran, ordered by President Trump without congressional authorization, represent a reckless and dangerous escalation of an already volatile conflict,” Omar said.

“Military strikes won’t bring peace. They will only fuel more violence, destabilize the region further, and put U.S. troops and civilians in harm’s way. We've seen the cost of sidelining diplomacy in favor of bombs—it’s always more death and destruction.”

She urged swift legislative action:

“Congress must immediately vote on the War Powers resolutions introduced by Rep. Thomas Massie and Sen. Tim Kaine when we return. The American people are sick of endless wars. We must stop this madness before even more lives are lost.”
