Five Killed as Bomb Explosion Rocks Kano |
At least five people have been confirmed dead following a bomb explosion in Kano State on Saturday.
In addition to the fatalities, ten others sustained varying degrees of injuries from the blast.
Confirming the incident, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Ibrahim, revealed that the suspected explosion involved an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit linked to a military-grade mortar bomb vehicle.
“I received a call about the incident, and upon arrival, it appeared to be a suspected explosion—possibly involving an EOD in a vehicle carrying a military mortar bomb,” Ibrahim said.
He added, “Fifteen people were affected and rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital. Sadly, five were confirmed dead, while ten others are currently receiving treatment.”
The police commissioner noted that the case is under investigation. Preliminary information suggests that the vehicle involved came from Yobe State.
“Initial findings indicate the explosive material was being transported by a trailer, but it’s still unclear whether the vehicle was operated by military personnel or contractors,” he explained.
As of the time of this report, authorities have yet to officially determine the exact cause of the explosion.
The incident has sparked fear and anxiety among residents across the state.
