Speaking at a press conference ahead of the upcoming zonal public hearing by the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, stating, “Whatever the President asks me to do, I will give it my all — 100 per cent.”
His remarks came in response to a recent campaign by a group advocating for him as a potential vice-presidential candidate. On Tuesday, Barau urged the group to redirect their energy toward supporting President Tinubu’s agenda.
Reiterating his position, Barau said, “Bringing up such discussions at this time is premature. I told those groups — honestly, I don’t even know them — but I appreciate their confidence in me. Still, I advised them: instead of spending your efforts on things that aren't currently relevant, focus on backing the President’s vision.”
He continued, “There will be a time for politics, but right now, it’s time for governance.”
Barau went on to describe President Tinubu as a political mentor to whom he remains deeply loyal. “Mr President is like a political father to me. You’d be amazed at what he’s done for me and my constituents. So, whenever he calls on me, I’ll answer. My loyalty to him is absolute.”
He credited Tinubu with resolving internal party conflicts in Kano, helping secure his re-election to the Senate in 2023, and supporting his rise to the position of Deputy Senate President.
“So if the time comes and he says, ‘I want you to work with me,’ my response will be, ‘Thank you, sir,’ and I’ll step up. Whatever he needs from me, I’ll deliver. My loyalty to him is unwavering. Let there be no doubt — the President is the father of the nation,” he said.
Barau also highlighted the ideological unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that loyalty is a core value among Progressives. “Our destinies are linked. We belong to the same political family — we are true Progressives. And as a committed Progressive, I place a high value on loyalty. I’m 100 per cent behind Mr President. Come 2027, I’ll do whatever he asks of me.”
