Gunmen Kill Two Students, Abduct Two Others Near Federal Polytechnic, Anambra

A tragic wave of violence struck near the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Anambra State on Thursday night, leaving two students dead, two others abducted, and at least four more seriously injured.
The deadly attack occurred around 8:40 p.m. at the Total and Tipper junctions—areas bustling with student activity. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, riding a motorcycle and a black Lexus 350 SUV without license plates, opened fire indiscriminately on unsuspecting students and bystanders.
Students who spoke to SaharaReporters described the scene as chaotic and horrifying, with bullets flying and people scrambling for safety.
The Anambra State Police Command has since confirmed the incident. Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said that two students were killed in the attack, while two others, including a female victim, are receiving treatment in the hospital. He also confirmed that two students were abducted during the assault.
"We are working with credible intelligence and eyewitness reports to track down those responsible," Ikenga stated. “A joint security task force led by the Area Commander of Aguata has been deployed to the area. A manhunt for the attackers is currently underway.”
Sources told SaharaReporters that the security operation includes personnel from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilante groups.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm, assuring that a thorough investigation is ongoing and regular updates will be provided.
The attack has sparked widespread outrage and heightened fears over the safety of students in the region. School officials and local leaders are now calling for increased security measures to prevent future tragedies.
