Gunmen Hijack Benue Links Bus, Abduct All Passengers on Otukpo-Otukpa Road

A troubling incident has unfolded in Benue State, where armed assailants hijacked a commercial bus operated by Benue Links Transport Company, abducting all passengers on board.

The attack occurred around 6:30 PM on Sunday at Eke, along the Otukpo-Otukpa Road in Okpokwu Local Government Area, according to reports gathered by SaharaReporters. Witnesses say the gunmen robbed the passengers before forcing them into the nearby bush.

Eyewitnesses further disclosed that the Benue State APC Chairman, Comrade Austin Agada, who happened to be driving by shortly after the incident, promptly alerted security forces.

A joint task force of security operatives has since launched a search operation to locate and rescue the victims.

This latest abduction raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of recent security assurances made by President Bola Tinubu, who had just concluded a visit to Benue State. During that visit, Tinubu had directed the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff to take swift action against those responsible for the region’s escalating violence.

The rising wave of attacks has triggered public outrage, with growing doubts about the government’s ability to ensure the safety of its citizens.

"We call on the security agencies to act swiftly and rescue the abducted passengers," said Comrade Agada. "The people of Benue deserve to live without fear. It is the duty of the government to guarantee their security."

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the incident and assured the public that efforts are underway to free the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
