Governor Adeleke Warns Radio Stations Over Code Violations, Vows Sanctions

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has issued a stern warning to radio stations operating within the state, vowing to sanction any outlet that continues to violate national broadcasting codes and incite unrest.

In a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke expressed concern over recent incidents where certain radio stations allowed guests to make inflammatory and inciting remarks, while also denying fair hearing to those being accused—actions he described as dangerous to public peace and professional standards.

> “Some stations are fanning the flames of violence by permitting inciteful commentary and ignoring balanced reporting,” the governor said. “This is a threat to peace and order.”

He revealed that he has directed the Commissioner for Information to summon the General Managers of the affected stations, warning that the state government would not hesitate to take tougher action if such violations persist.

> “While we uphold freedom of the press, that freedom must be practiced with responsibility and respect for ethics,” the statement emphasized.

Warning to Politicians Over Court Ruling

Governor Adeleke also issued a strong warning to opposition politicians, accusing some of inciting violence following the Appeal Court ruling of June 12, 2025, by the Akure Division.

He alleged that certain political actors have been making provocative statements aimed at stirring unrest, and warned that anyone found guilty of such actions would be dealt with by security agencies.

> “Those attempting to take the law into their hands or use rhetoric to create chaos will face legal consequences,” he said.

Police Deploy Across Osun Amid Political Tensions

Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command has deployed personnel across local government secretariats to prevent a possible breakdown of law and order, following the court ruling.

The ruling has reportedly led to fresh political tensions, with both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) laying conflicting claims to the control of local councils.

Speaking on the deployment, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that officers were sent out strictly for peacekeeping purposes, emphasizing the police were not taking sides politically.

> “We are only here to provide security and ensure peace prevails. We urge the public to go about their lawful activities,” he stated.
