Fire Destroys Over 300 Shops in Kano Phone Market |
A devastating fire outbreak engulfed the popular mobile phone market in Kano, Kano State, on Friday, destroying over 300 shops and leaving traders in shock and despair.
The market chairman, Jamilu Gama, confirmed the tragic incident, revealing that the fire raged for nearly six to seven hours before firefighters were able to bring it under control.
According to Gama, the most affected area of the market was where mobile phones and accessories are sold — one of the busiest and most valuable sections.
> “There was a huge loss of property and assets. In a single shop, you could find items worth N500 million, and in some cases, up to N1 billion — all completely burnt,” he lamented.
Although the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, estimates suggest that the total value of goods destroyed could run into billions of naira.
This tragic event marks one of the worst fire incidents in the history of Kano markets and has left many business owners counting their losses with uncertainty about the future.
