FG Releases N60bn for Agro-Livestock Industrial Zone Development

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has confirmed the receipt of N60 billion from the federal government to kick-start the development of an agro-livestock industrial zone in the state.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the project, Governor Yahaya revealed that President Bola Tinubu had committed a total of N120 billion to the initiative, with N60 billion already disbursed as the first tranche.

He explained that the project aims to foster a prosperous and sustainable future for livestock development in the state and across the region.

The industrial zone, spanning 184 hectares, will feature a range of state-of-the-art facilities including an ultramodern abattoir, an international livestock market, fattening hubs, a tannery and leather factory, a world-class grain and livestock feed market, and an inland dry port.

“Each of these facilities is equipped with advanced infrastructure designed to support safe, efficient, and large-scale processing and trade,” the governor stated. “The ultramodern abattoir is poised to revolutionize meat processing in Gombe State and the broader northern region.”

He further noted that the automated abattoir would enable hygienic, efficient, and globally compliant processing, packaging, and distribution for both domestic and export markets. “By ending the outdated and risky practice of transporting live animals, we’re ushering in a smarter, safer livestock economy,” he added.

Governor Yahaya emphasized that the project will not only create jobs and boost productivity but will also promote import substitution and increase foreign exchange earnings across all segments of the livestock value chain.

He commended President Tinubu for his unwavering support in unlocking the vast potential of the livestock sector.

Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to livestock sector advancement.

He noted that the Gombe agro-livestock industrial zone is in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to boost animal processing capabilities for both local and international markets.

The minister praised Governor Yahaya’s vision and initiative, adding that the facility, once completed, will have the capacity to process 500 bulls, 1,000 small ruminants, and 3,000 poultry birds daily.
