FG Declares June 12 Public Holiday for Democracy Day

The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, June 12, 2025, as a public holiday to mark this year’s Democracy Day.
This announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. She revealed that the declaration came from the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
The minister congratulated Nigerians on 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, noting that June 12 symbolizes the nation's enduring journey towards justice, truth, peace, and a secure future.
“June 12 represents our historical quest to build a country founded on justice and truth, where peace thrives and hope is renewed,” he stated.
He emphasized that democracy is an evolving process, expressing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration’s continued dedication to democratic principles — where the people freely shape the country’s political, economic, social, and cultural future.
