Democracy Day: NSCDC Pledges Protection of Critical Infrastructure
As Nigeria prepares to mark Democracy Day with peaceful protests across various states, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has pledged to secure key national assets and maintain order.
Dr. Ahmed Audi, the Corps Commandant-General, has instructed the immediate deployment of enhanced security operations nationwide, citing credible intelligence pointing to planned protests in states such as the FCT, Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Delta, and Rivers.
In a statement released by the NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, Dr. Audi emphasized that protecting public infrastructure and lives remains a top priority. He ordered personnel to be on high alert at known protest locations, public gathering points, and recreational areas.
“The corps must prevent any potential breakdown of law and order or vandalism by criminal elements who may try to hijack peaceful protests,” he stated.
Dr. Audi also warned youths not to fall prey to those who may exploit the protests for unlawful activities, stressing that anyone caught instigating violence will be apprehended and prosecuted.
He assured that the NSCDC is working in close collaboration with other security agencies to ensure public safety and the peaceful conduct of Democracy Day activities.
