In his 2025 Eid Kabir message, Chief Imam Sanni has urged Muslims not to borrow money or engage in unlawful acts to fulfill the tradition of slaughtering a ram. The message, released on Thursday in Lagos through the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), comes amid ongoing economic challenges.
Sanni reminded the Muslim faithful that those who cannot afford the sacrifice are not obligated to perform it. He emphasized that financial prudence and integrity should be maintained even during religious observances.
Extending his greetings to all Nigerians, the cleric prayed for national peace and the safe return of pilgrims from Hajj. He also reflected on the significance of this year’s Eid, which coincides with the second anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He called on the President, governors, and local government leaders to take urgent steps to restore hope in the Nigerian populace by implementing policies that address the harsh economic realities, including the impact of fuel subsidy removal and currency instability.
Sanni stressed that enacting the new national minimum wage would help ease tensions and called on government officials to honor their promises to rebuild public trust and revive patriotism.
He also cited public backlash over the now-shelved compulsory voting bill, urging policymakers to consider public opinion when crafting future laws.
