Bauchi Government Bans Farming on Roadside and Urban Open Spaces

The Bauchi State Government has officially banned farming activities along road setbacks and open spaces within urban areas, in a move aimed at protecting the environment and public safety.
The ban was announced in a statement released on Friday by Yahaya Waziri, Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA).
According to Waziri, the new directive affects all farming on road medians, setbacks, green zones, and other designated open spaces in the metropolis and surrounding urban centers.
He explained that roadside farming and cultivation in such areas pose risks to public safety, block drainage systems, tarnish the city’s appearance, and contribute to environmental degradation.
“This measure is to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all residents,” Waziri stated. “People are strongly advised to stop planting crops or farming in public areas meant for urban beautification and development.”
BASEPA has announced plans to begin strict monitoring and enforcement of the new directive. Violators will be penalized under the state’s existing environmental laws and regulations.
The agency emphasized that the ban is part of a broader effort to create and maintain a healthier, more sustainable urban environment for everyone in the state.
