Arsenal are on the verge of finalizing the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga this week.
The 30-year-old is available for just £5 million, thanks to a release clause triggered after he extended his Chelsea contract by an additional year last summer—prior to a successful loan stint at Bournemouth.
The former Spain international is expected to join the Gunners and provide competition for fellow Spaniard David Raya in the race for the No. 1 spot.
Arsenal were in the market for a backup goalkeeper after deciding not to make Neto’s loan move permanent. The Brazilian had spent last season at the Emirates on loan from Bournemouth.
Kepa remains the most expensive goalkeeper in football history, following his £72 million move from Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea in 2018.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, he made 163 appearances and won four major trophies across a mixed seven-year spell with the Blues.
He also enjoyed a successful loan spell with Real Madrid, where he added both the La Liga and UEFA Champions League titles to his collection during the 2023–24 season.
